Having lived in Wivenhoe for 6 months before I managed to find out about the Wivenhoe ferry, I thought I’d share what I’ve found out with people.
The ferry runs between Wivenhoe and Rowhedge mainly but they will also take you across the river to Fingringhoe if you like. It’s about £1.50 per person to Rowhedge, not sure about to Fingringhoe.
MOST IMPORTANTLY – the ferry only runs on weekends, during the summer, and for about 3 – 4 hours per day (during the daytime high-tide). Timetables can be bought for 1.50 from selected shops and businesses in Wivenhoe.
The ferry is run by volunteers and does not make a profit. The volunteers are really nice people and can tell you a little about the area during your crossing if you so wish.
Finally, there’s a really nice pub on the river in Rowhedge where you can have a drink whilst you’re there, it is quite expensive though.
If I find more information about the timetable, I will post again.
Enjoy the ferry!
